As the kids head back to the classroom, it’s important to remember that learning is lifelong and has no age limits. You are never too old to pick up a new skill at Belleville Public Library. Here are some opportunities for adults to learn something new this Fall.

Adult beginner computer classes will run on Thursday mornings from 10:15-11:30 a.m. from September 7 to October 12. This refreshed 6-week course is designed for those with little to no experience using computers. We will cover the basics, including an introduction to Microsoft Windows, navigating files and folders, using the internet, and using Gmail. Our computer classes are a great way to gain confidence with technology. Space is limited and registration is required.

In September the library will offer a new 3D printing course for adults and teens ages 16 and up. Over 3 weeks, participants will learn the basics of 3D printing technology, design a simple object using TinkerCAD, and print a small object on the library’s MakerBot Replicator+ 3D printer. The course will be held on Wednesday evenings from 6:00-7:00 p.m. on September 6, 13, and 20. Call or email us to register for this free course.

If you need a hand navigating your smart phone, Belleville Public Library is offering Phone Help Drop-In hours from 2-4 p.m. on Monday September 11, October 23 and November 27. Bring your Android phone or iPhone and your questions. From texting to Wi-Fi to installing apps to downloading audiobooks, our staff will answer your questions. No registration required.

Curious about Cricut? Cricut is a brand of cutting machine that can cut custom designs into materials like card stock and vinyl. Attend a free Cricut 101 session and learn about the library’s Cricut equipment, including how it works and the materials you can use. Get ideas for your next creative project! Circuit 101 will be held on Friday September 8 at 10:30 a.m. and on Wednesday October 4 at 5:30 p.m. Register for the date that works best for you.

Once you have a project idea, come to our Cricut Drop-in hours and use the library’s Cricut Maker machine, Mug Press and Easy Press 2. Bring your own supplies or purchase from our selection of materials. Staff will be on hand if you need any assistance. For details about our equipment and materials, visit the Cricut Maker page on our website. Upcoming Cricut Drop-in hours are Monday September 18 from 2-4 p.m. and Wednesday October 11 from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

If you prefer a more guided Cricut project, we are offering a different workshop each month. We’ll provide materials and walk you through each step. The first fall workshop is on Tuesday September 21 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. and we will be customizing tea towels. Design your graphic with Canva, use the Cricut Maker to cut your design onto heat transfer vinyl, and use the Easy Press to transfer the design onto a tea towel. The cost is $5. Space is limited so be sure to register. Future Cricut workshops to look forward to are mugs using the Mug Press in October, ceramic coasters with permanent vinyl in November, and acrylic ornaments with permanent vinyl in December. Visit our website for details and dates.
